Often times we can get lost in our journey's when we might only see the end result. It makes you think something is wrong with you rather than you are experiencing your own journey. How do we learn if don't compare? That was my mentality when I was starting my journey out again in 2020.
Truth is you have to get inspired because it's really easy to feel envious and jealousy for other dancers. Everyone who is in this sport works hella hard. It's isn't about who is trying harder or who can get there the fastest.
By implementing some of these slides, I hope you will be kinder towards your pole journey.

The beginner Mindset: more like the professional mindset in your first month. Lets say it all together, the pole dancers who are intermediate- professional have been practising more than you think. I remember I had a really cool professional poler tell me I wasn't ready for a spilt grip as a beginner as it was an intermediate move. I get what he was saying now. Looking back he was right and I don't need to practice the fundamentals as much and I pass that information on to my clients.
The art of falling: I remember the first and only time I fell bad. I was the first to do a drop, on spin ever. At my pole studio and I was 22 years old and not as conditioned as I am now at 34 years old. I was at the top and all at once I was one the floor and my friend asked if I was okay. Thankfully I was because this was before crash mats were implemented.
Your journey: You have to love all of it and be patient. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to slow down and be more kind to my progress. I gave up so many times before I realised that it was simply me being kinder and knowing I'd get there. Got me further than I ever thought I'd get.
Pole community: I always loved the pole community. I came from fitness and 90's diet culture where women tried to be as thin as possible. I started my journey as a plus sized poler and I was always accepted. I have met so many friends across the world who ended up being close friends to me. So much so I can't wait to visit them! Other polers really do want you to succeed and we want to cheer you on!
The Spark within: Pole dancers are intrinsically motivated to do this sport. Essentially we do this sport because we love it. If it's not a part of our lives we miss it, yearn for it. Crave it until we get back to our bad bitch self.
Trust your grip: You simply need to fall into certain moves to get it. You have learn proper form and trust that you will succeed in your move if you trust yourself and your grip. It's why most polers strip right down to stick and why most have a favourite grip solution.
Gratitude for your body: You have to take care of your body, its the whole reason you're able to do this sport in the first place. Rest is something I always remind polers to do. Especially in the case of an injury. The more we take our time, warming up conditioning and stretching. The longer we get to do this amazing sport.
Keep dreaming: I never would have been motivated or inspired if I didn't look up to pole dancers who put themselves out in the world. From strippers to studio owners and anyone in between. If anyone is making a bag, following their dreams, getting healthy, doing it for confidence. Whatever your reason, keep doing it. You're inspiring so many future polers!
